Qu Wanting's songs explore different music genres

In LLL, she tries dance music and electronic music for the first time because she wants to display the diversity of her music.

"I don't want to be 'safe' musically. I've listened to lots of fast tempo and high-energy music during the past four years, like when I was doing housework or in the gym. I like the beats and I've learned to appreciate different types of music," says Qu.

Qu, a native of Heilongjiang provincial capital Harbin, was educated in Canada, and started writing songs at 15.

Qu's talent for songwriting was recognized in 2009 when she became the first Asian artist signed by Nettwerk, Canada's largest independent record label, which helped establish a number of big-name stars including Avril Lavigne.

Her debut album, Everything in the World, achieved multi-platinum status in China within weeks of its release in 2012.

The instant fame enabled her to gather a large fan base and she appeared at one of the most-watched annual galas, the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, in 2013, in which she performed her hit song, You Exist in My Song.

In 2013, she also released her second album, Say the Words, in which she has participated in the whole production process, from writing to producing.

Speaking about her current work, she says: "I never stopped writing music. It's like a habit of writing diaries. In my music, I stay true to myself. With this album, I am much more open to music genres and I want to explore different musical territories."

She plans to have a tour in North America and China in 2018.
