Shenyang event gives glimpse into culture 5,000 years ago

A cultural relic exhibition themed with “Meet the Hongshan Culture Again”, gave a rare glimpse into an ancient culture when it opened at the Liaoning Provincial Museum in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on Oct 16.

Hosted by the Liaoning cultural heritage administration, the Inner Mongolia cultural heritage administration and Liaoning Cultural Performing Arts Group, the exhibition will run until Jan 16, 2020.

Hongshan Culture, which can be dated back more than 5,000 years, originated from south central part of Inner Mongolia autonomous region and the western part of Northeast China.

Experts say it is one of the important cultures for studying the process of civilization in the western part of Liaoning province and the origins of Chinese civilization.

Organizers said that it is the first time that cultural relics of Hongshan Culture have ever been so extensively displayed. The exhibition showcases and integrates the discoveries of cultural artifacts in Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia and other areas over the years, they added.

A total of 246 relics are on display, including stoneware, pottery and jade ware –– 98 items of which are being borrowed for the exhibition from other provinces and areas. Exhibits are divided into four sections, recounting the history and evolution of the Hongshan Culture.

Throughout the exhibition, academic forums on Hongshan Culture will also be held, according to the organizers.
