Premier to host eighth trilateral meeting

Premier Li Keqiang will host the eighth China-Japan-Republic of Korea leaders' meeting in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, on Dec 24, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Tuesday. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Republic of Korean President Moon Jae-in will attend the meeting, which will focus on improving cooperation for the next 10 years and bolstering regional and international peace, stability, growth and prosperity, she said. China is maintaining close coordination with the other two nations to come up with appropriate arrangements for bilateral meetings, Hua added. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event.

Websites suspended for multiple violations

The websites of Visual China Group and IC Photo, which provide visual content, were required to suspend services for rectification on Tuesday due to multiple violations. The websites were engaged in internet news information services without obtaining authorized licenses, according to the Cyberspace Administration of China. They also carried out cooperation involving internet news and information services with overseas enterprises without security assessment, which seriously disrupted the order of network communication, according to administration departments in Tianjin, Jiangsu, Beijing and Shanghai that summoned people in charge of the websites.

Ex-official gets 14-year prison term for graft

Qian Yin'an, former member of the Standing Committee of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for taking bribes of more than 63 million yuan ($8.95 million) by a court in Guangdong province on Tuesday. The Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court also ordered Qian to pay a fine of 5 million yuan.

Russian cultural week opens in Sanya

Russian cultural week opened in the city of Sanya, Hainan province, on Monday. During the seven-day event, oil paintings from Russia's Repin Academy of Fine Arts will be displayed, and classic Russian dances and songs will be performed. In addition, Russian films will be screened in Sanya, Qionghai and the province's capital of Haikou, to create a Russian cultural feast for residents and tourists in Hainan.

Province to add 2,000 hectares of mangrove

Hainan province has set a target to add 2,000 hectares of mangrove forests by 2025, bringing total acreage to 7,724 hectares in the province. The province's new conservation plan designated an ecological red line for protection and restoration, and holds municipal and county governments responsible. Mangrove wetlands boast rich biodiversity and can provide shelter from wind and waves, protect levees and shores, promote silt formation and purify seawater.
