Shenyang Imperial Palace displays treasures in South Korea

The exhibition “Treasures from the Shenyang Imperial Palace” kicked off at the National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul, South Korea on Dec 10 and will run to March 1, according to the organizers.

A total of 123 collections from Shenyang Palace Museum in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province -- including porcelain, costumes, weaponry, carvings, paintings and calligraphy works -- are currently on display.

The exhibition, jointly hosted by the two museums, includes sections showcasing the birth of China’s Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and its prosperous development, with cultural relics and historical descriptions.

It displays the transformation of cultural relics from the Qing Dynasty -- from the practical to high levels of artistry to South Korean visitors -- according to organizers.

Before the opening ceremony, an agreement signing ceremony between Shenyang Palace Museum and the National Palace Museum of Korea was held. Li Shengneng, curator of Shenyang Palace Museum and Li Li, the museum’s deputy curator, attended.

According to the agreement, the National Palace Museum of Korea will hold an exhibition of treasures from the Korean royal family at Shenyang Palace Museum from Sept 1 to Nov 15, 2020, running 76 days.

The exhibition will include more than 100 collections, displaying the royal family’s long history and life.

Li Shengneng said that Shenyang Palace Museum attached great importance to exchanges with domestic and foreign museums -- and the cooperation with the National Palace Museum of Korea would enhance visitors’ understanding of the two country’s cultures and promote cultural exchanges between the nations.
