Tech: Private 5G satellite to be launched

A private 5G satellite is expected to be carried into orbit by a Chinese Kuaizhou 1A rocket later this month. It is a 200-kilogram satellite independently developed by commercial aerospace company GalaxySpace. Orbiting at an altitude of 1,200 meters, it will cover 300,000 square kilometers. The company will develop more low-cost, high-performance 5G satellites, and build space internet and bridge digital gaps, said Xu Ming, chairman of GalaxySpace.

Culture: Gansu cave among top discoveries

Baishiya Karst Cave in Xiahe county, Gansu province, was recently recognized by Archaeology magazine in the United States as one of the top 10 archaeological discoveries this year. Some 40 years ago, a Buddhist monk uncovered a human lower jaw in the cave, which is more than 3,000 meters above sea level on the Tibetan Plateau. Archaeologists have verified that the bone was 160,000 years old, and analysis of proteins from its teeth indicates that it belonged to a member of the hominid species known as Denisovans. The mysterious ancient humans were previously known only through fragmentary remains found solely in southern Siberia's Denisova Cave, 2,800 kilometers northwest of Baishiya Karst Cave. The cave lies 700 meters above sea level.

The British company Smith& Sinclair has created a special candle that allows you to experience the scent in a completely new way. The candle tastes as good as it smells. It is 100 percent vegan and comes in a spiced orange or candy cane peppermint flavors. It's made from a mixture of coconut oil and raw cocoa butter. The company recommends burning the wick and allowing the edible candle wax to melt before slowly pouring it into hot chocolate.

Travel: Global tourists converge on Macao

Macao had welcomed over 33 million visitors in the first 10 months of 2019, said a latest report from Macao Statistics and Census Service. The tourism industry anticipates that Macao will receive 40 million visitors by the end of 2019. Before returning to the motherland, Macao had about 7 million visitors in 1999. In 2018, some 35.8 million visitors came to this special administrative region, which covers an area of about 33 square km and hosts a population of 670,000. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, the chief of Macao Government Tourism Office, told Xinhua that Macao's booming tourism industry has been promoted by the rapid development of the mainland and preferential policies from the central government.
