Report: Livestreaming surged in 2020

Livestreaming users in China reached 617 million as of December 2020, according to the latest China Statistical Report on Internet Development released by China Internet Network Information Center on Wednesday.

They accounted for 62.4 percent of the total internet population in China in December, 57.03 million more than that in March 2020.

E-commerce livestreaming users grew from 123 million to 388 million between March and December, taking a share of 39.2 percent of the total internet population of China; online game livestreaming users fell to 191 million in December, down 68.35 million from March, accounting for 19.3 percent; livestreaming reality show users rose to 239 million, up 31.68 million, 24.2 percent of the country's total internet population; vocal concert livestreaming users increased to 190 million, 39.77 million more than that in March, accounting for 19.2 percent; sports livestreaming users stood at 138 million, 74.88 million less than that in March, 13.9 percent of the total.

The report said livestreaming industries represented by e-commerce boomed in 2020. Statistics show 66.2 percent users of e-commerce livestreaming at least shopped once via e-commerce livestreaming, 17.8 percent of whom spent more than one-third of their total expenses of online shopping via e-commerce livestreaming.
