Chindata Group inks cloud deal with Tencent Holdings

Chinese carrier-neutral, hyperscale data center solution provider Chindata Group inked a deal with tech giant Tencent Holdings, in an effort to develop cloud computing-featured new infrastructure and promote carbon neutrality.

Specifically, the two parties will integrate respective resources, and cooperate in areas including governance, industry, culture and tourism, education, healthcare, energy and transportation. The first phase of cooperation will center on smart city, industrial internet, smart culture and tourism, and smart healthcare.

Chindata said in terms of cloud computing-featured infrastructure construction, the two companies will jointly invest resources to explore the feasibility of cloud computing-featured infrastructure site selection across the country, and deepen the focus on data center infrastructure, network bandwidth infrastructure, information technology infrastructure, and optical fiber network resources.

The two parties also will establish cloud computing-featured infrastructure joint laboratories nationwide, and explore the feasibility of cooperation in equipment manufacturing of data centers, Chindata said.

Meanwhile, according to Chindata and Tencent, they will work together on low-energy solutions by increasing the utilization of clean and surplus energy and promoting green energy usage.

The two companies will open up respective resources based on their cloud computing-based infrastructure needs, dock their data centers, integrate their most competitive overall product solution capabilities, and provide more accurate and effective digital transformation solutions for all walks of life.

In the future, Chindata and Tencent will work together to integrate resources and combine advantages to fuel the iteration of digital industries and help achieve China's carbon-neutral goal.

Ye Ruiqi, program director of global environmental protection organization Greenpeace, said during an interview with financial magazine Caijing that to meet the country's carbon neutrality commitment, China's information technology companies should promote green transformation, and set a goal of sourcing 100 percent renewable energy by 2030.
