23 local COVID-19 cases reported in Chengdu
Twenty-three local COVID-19 cases have been reported in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province, during the latest outbreak.
The first identified local case was reported on Nov 2. A 23-year-old man who traveled to Northwest China and returned to Chengdu from Sichuan's neighboring city of Chongqing, was infected by the Delta variant.
Due to the stronger transmission of the Delta strain, there
was a case of one man transmitting the virus to 13 people, said Tang Xuefeng, deputy director of the Sichuan Provincial Disease Prevention and Control Center, in a news conference on Tuesday morning.
A 37-year-old man was reported to have transmitted the virus to his wife, one-year-old daughter, parents-in-law, four colleagues and five neighbors.
According to the provincial health commission, Sichuan has 10 medium-risk areas, all of which are in Chengdu.
