Video brings back tender memories of mother

A video made by a 19-year-old woman to commemorate the life of her mother and the love they shared has touched millions of hearts in China after the mother died at age 46 in Qingdao, Shandong province.

"I still love you even though death has parted us," Liu Liwei, says on the video, which shows moments with her mother before and after multiple surgeries to save her life following the rupture of a blood vessel in her brain.

The mother, Fan Ruixia, survived three operations, and the daughter's hopes for recovery rose. Sadly, on Nov 18, Fan had a sudden seizure and died.

"Countless healing acupuncture treatments failed to keep her going," a tearful Liu said.

Liu had lived with her mother for years — since junior middle school — after her parents' divorce. They came to depend on each other. After Liu grew up and went away to college, her love never waned, and when her mother was stricken, Liu was drawn back home.

She took a year off from college to help with rehabilitation. It was a year loaded with companionship and shared experiences, and she recorded much of it. Together, the optimism and strength of mother and daughter grew.

Now her mother is gone, but Liu's memories remain in the video — pictures of past healthy days with her mother, short clips of times together, words of love exchanged.

Many netizens offered sympathy and shared their own stories.

"My mother died when I was 17. I tried everything but I couldn't save her," one wrote.

Another said: "My mother had painful gallstones, but she still registered for a cold for me at the hospital, disregarding her own suffering."

"I was afraid that my mom would be sad to see the video of my father before he died, so I could only secretly watch it and cry in my bed," another person wrote.

For Liu, the video allows her to relive the precious time she spent with her mother. It has garnered well over 1 million "likes" online.
