Vice-Premier Sun stresses strict adherence to zero-COVID policy in Shanghai

Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan on Sunday stressed unswerving adherence to the dynamic zero-COVID approach to curb the current outbreak in Shanghai while sparing no efforts in protecting people's life and the city's operation.

Sun, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, arrived in Shanghai on Saturday to inspect the city's epidemic control efforts.

The vice-premier noted Shanghai as an economic center with high density of population should guarantee the operation of its core functions. Related departments should coordinate resources to support the epidemic control efforts, she said, adding that every steps of the citywide nucleic acid testing should be done in a speedy and orderly fashion.

Sun said the city should put resources to prepare quarantine rooms and beds, improve the efficiency of quarantine facility management so as to admit every people with exposure to the virus on the same day they are identified.

During her inspection to Huamingyuan Apartment, a quarantine facility, Sun urged service and management of the quarantined people to be more careful and thorough.

At the Shanghai Municipal Gerontological Medical Center, Sun listened to reports on treatment of COVID-19 patient via videolink with Zhongshan and Ruijin hospitals, and asked medical professionals to strengthen triage plans, optimize treatment and take care of each individual patient.

Sun also visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Minhang campus and stressed the responsibility of schools and universities in protecting the safety of students and faculties.

In the command center of the municipal public security bureau, Sun instructed police to guarantee the social order in locked-down areas and treatment facilities.
