Beijing residents sent to nearby province for quarantine

Beijing's Haidian district announced on Monday night it was transferring around 1,800 residents from its Youyi residential community, where new COVID-19 cases have been reported, to neighboring Hebei province for seven days of centralized quarantine.

The district's spokeswoman, Xiao Dan, said at a news conference on Monday afternoon the community had reported 19 recent infections.

According to a notice on the official WeChat account of Haidian district, seven hotels in Zhangjiakou city in Hebei will take those who have been quarantined.

The notice said the move shows the level of cooperation between Beijing and Hebei province on epidemic control and prevention.

People with chronic diseases, senior citizens, pet owners, and students about to take school entry examinations will be allowed to stay in their homes for quarantine after being evaluated by professionals, the notice said.

Up to 100 vehicles will be used to complete the transfer, the district added.

Meanwhile, medical teams will also be sent to Zhangjiakou, to ensure the healthcare needs of people during their quarantine.
