It is US that is the gorilla in the room

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's reckless visit to China's Taiwan island on Aug 2 has directly escalated the tensions across the Taiwan Straits and aroused widespread concern and criticism from the international community. China's countermeasures against Pelosi's provocative move are justified and reasonable. They are necessary measures to not only safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also provide strong support for regional peace and stability.

The United States has compounded its mistake by falsely claiming that it is China's actions that have escalated tensions across the Taiwan Straits and had a serious impact on regional peace and stability. This has given the world a deeper understanding of the need for China to take firm actions to counter the US' malicious provocations.

The wrong move by the US is a serious challenge to the international order and a grave threat to peace across the Straits and regional stability.

If China does not firmly respond to the provocations by the US and the separatist acts of the "Taiwan independence" forces supported by the US, the hard-won peace and stability in the region will only suffer more serious damage.

For a long time, the US has violated the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and basic norms governing international relations by waging wars and provoking conflicts everywhere, bringing great turmoil and humanitarian disasters to the world.

The US has initiated 201 of the 248 armed conflicts worldwide between the end of World War II and 2001. And since 2001, more than 800,000 people have been killed and tens of millions displaced by wars and military operations initiated or engaged in by the US. It is the US that should be condemned by the whole world.

The US is trying to link the current situation across the Taiwan Straits with the Ukraine crisis out of very egregious motives. The Taiwan question and the Ukraine crisis are fundamentally different in nature. Taiwan is part of China and the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair.

The US is good at provoking and profiting from crises. It is a parasite on them. The Ukraine crisis was provoked by the US. Instead of learning from its mistakes, the US is now stirring up a crisis across the Taiwan Straits again. It is the US that is continuing to undermine peace and stability of the world.
