Tibet makes solid progress in battle against COVID-19

The Tibet autonomous region has been making solid progress in its battle against the latest COVID-19 outbreak, with all the region's seven prefecture-level cities having or basically realizing zero COVID-19 status at the community level, authorities said at a news conference on Thursday afternoon.

Shigatse, Tibet, announced on Wednesday that it had reached zero COVID-19 transmission at the community level, according to a statement released by the city's health authorities on Wednesday.

The statement expressed thanks to other Chinese provinces, cities, armies and people in all walks of life for their support in helping the city fight the pandemic. It also sent special thanks to all the regional government institutes, police officers and residents in the autonomous region for their efforts and cooperation in epidemic prevention and control work.

According to a statement, the city is still facing a complicated and changeable situation in epidemic prevention and control, and the task of preventing a pandemic rebound remains arduous.

Meanwhile, as of 4 pm on Sunday, the region announced reaching zero COVID-19 transmission at the community level in five of its seven prefecture-level cities, including Nyingchi, Chamdo, Nagchu, Lhokha and Ngari.

In addition, community level transmission has been basically cut off in the region's capital, Lhasa, according to a statement released by the city's health authorities on Monday.

The plateau region reported 78 local confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 889 asymptomatic carriers between Tuesday and 2 pm on Wednesday.

As of Tuesday, the region had 489 areas designated as high-risk for COVID-19 and 158 as medium-risk.
