New coming-of-age film aims to explore the status quo of post-1990 generation

Among a slew of new movies unveiled during the ninth Silk Road International Film Festival, The Constant Youth has seized attention from some industry insiders for its reflection of the status quo of the post-1990 generation.

Centering on two close friends who have grown up together, the movie chronicles them striving to launch their own business, demonstrating the pursuit of the young generation in this new era.

The film’s crew and cast, including actor Luo Mingjie and actress Hu Jiaxin, walked the red carpet during the opening ceremony of the festival, which was held in Shaanxi province’s Xi’an between Jan 1 and 3.

Ma Xiaogang, the movie’s director, said the movie aims to demonstrate the multiple facets of China’s young startup launchers and wished such an inspirational and positive story could bring warmth and hope to the young audience.

Aside from the business part, the film also features some scenes about ping-pong, one of the most popular sport games to the post-1990 generation in China, according to the producers.

Zhu Yuqing, a veteran film industry insider, said the major Chinese moviegoers are born between 1990s and 2000s, but there are few movies touching on their lives and reflecting their dreams. He said he believes the movie could fill such a gap, striking a string with a younger audience.
