Around 60 Liberian professionals to begin training in China

Some 57 professionals drawn from Liberia's diplomatic service, the national police and medical institutions will depart the country early next week for short-term training in Beijing.

The training is part of efforts to "boost the capacities of the Liberian professionals, and to place them in the position to better contribute to their country in various areas", said Liberian Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemaya.

At a pre-departure ceremony held Thursday evening, Charge d'Affaires of Chinese embassy in Liberia Xu Kun said the short-term training will provide the Liberian professionals with the right tool in learning advanced skills with management experience in order to enhance their level of services at various places of work in their country.

Xu termed the training as "a concrete manifestation of China-Liberia friendship and vivid actions of China's sincere assistance to the economic and social development of Liberia".

Xu said China is willing to carry out more cooperation with Liberia in the future, a cooperation that will be on the basis of equality, mutual respect, non-interference of internal affairs and win-win cooperation.

Kemaya emphasized that bilateral and multilateral relations between China and Liberia remain strong, noting that Liberia will abide by the one China at all times.

Kemaya said human resource capacity programs from the Chinese government will greatly add value to the government professionals and to the people of Liberia.

"We have 25 security personnel from the Liberian National Police, 25 young diplomats and seven medical practitioners from the JFK Memorial Hospital who are to benefit from this training in China. Liberia will abide by the one China and Liberia and China bilateral and multilateral relations remain strong," Kemaya said.

Liberian Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue said China has assisted Liberia in many ways, by providing riot gear to enable the police to better respond in time of riots.
