Sanya to hold Dragon Boat Open

The 2023 Sanya Dragon Boat Open will be held on June 18 in the Sanya River. Sixteen teams, with 400 athletes, from Sanya, Lingshui, Wanning, Ding'an, Qionghai, Changjiang, Chengmai and other cities and counties in Hainan, as well as teams from Hong Kong, will participate in the competition.

With a long history and broad popularity, dragon boat racing is one of the traditional sports in Sanya.

This competition will feature two events: the water dragon boat race and the land dragon boat experience. The land dragon boat experience is available for citizens and tourists, while the water events are divided into a men's 400-meter race and a women's 400-meter race. The top four men's teams will go on to participate in the 1,000-meter dragon boat simulation race, which is a qualifier for the 7th Hainan Traditional Ethnic Minorities Sports Games.

An organizer of the event stated that Sanya has natural conditions that are suitable for carrying out dragon boat competitions. This competition will promote dragon boat culture, while also boosting the "sports culture tourism" development model in Sanya.

After this event, the Sanya Dragon Boat Association will promote dragon boat culture on campuses, further promoting traditional Chinese sports projects, enriching students' lives with sports and culture, and improving the event's influence.
