Zhejiang advances low-carbon development with smart grids

In the pursuit of low-carbon development, Yucun village in Anji, Zhejiang province, is spearheading the adoption of rooftop solar panels to achieve its green goals.

As solar power generation typically peaks during daylight hours, while the area's electricity demand primarily stems from guesthouses, the on-site consumption of solar power poses challenges to the stability of the power supply system.

To meet the demand for voltage control and energy efficiency for low-carbon needs, State Grid Zhejiang Power Supply Co has launched a pilot project in Yucun, deploying on-load tap-changer transformers with magnetic control to enhance voltage regulation in the distribution network with digital intelligence.

"Now, with solar panels, air conditioning and electric floor heating, the voltage remains very stable," said Li Guliang, manager of a local guesthouse in Yucun.

Personnel from State Grid Zhejiang have also recently conducted inspections on the four newly deployed on-load tap-changer transformers in Yucun to ensure safe and smooth operations.

The company said it will further expand its service to better achieve dual carbon goals for rural applications. For instance, they will integrate local power usage data into Yucun's intelligent digital twin system. Through big data analysis, the village will be able to link electricity data with carbon emissions, enabling precise collection and lean management of carbon emissions in the area, and providing solid support for the village's green transformation.

Since the beginning of this year, in Yucun, the birthplace of the concept "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", local power grids have been actively constructing a green and prosperous new type of distribution network with a focus on digital empowerment, said the power supplier.
