State Grid cooperation agreement powers tree-line coexistence

To reasonably resolve the conflict between trees and electric lines in Zhoukou, Henan province, State Grid Zhoukou Power Supply Company and Zhoukou city's garden greening center signed the Tree-Line Protection Cooperation Framework Agreement on June 5, after successful communication between the two parties.

Such an effort is aimed at exploring a new mechanism for the harmonious coexistence of greenery and power supply lines in the city. It is beneficial to preserve greenery in the urban area while at the same time ensure the stable operation of the power grid.

"Today, under the guidance of Zhoukou city's garden greening center, we assisted in the trimming of 74 tall ornamental trees under the 110-kilovolt Chuanteng T Middle Line. It can ensure the safe operation of key power channels in the urban area," said Gui Tong, a staff member from State Grid Zhoukou Power Supply Company.

The agreement clearly specifies the two parties should establish a smooth and efficient communication mechanism. A joint meeting will be held quarterly to coordinate issues related to garden greening and electricity. For tall green trees that affect power channel safety, trimming work will be carried out in advance under the coordination of the competent authorities to eliminate hazards before summer peak load.

The two parties will also establish a law enforcement mechanism to transplant trees that affect the safe operation of power lines or dense channel equipment. They will replace the trees with low shrubs or flowers within the safety range.

Based on the early-stage planning and construction of the power grid, State Grid Zhoukou Power Supply Company is required to fully consider the opinions on garden greening. During the site selection stage, efforts should be made to avoid nature reserves and urban garden greening key areas such as ecological corridors. If avoidance is not possible, the opinions of the competent urban garden greening department should be sought to minimize the impact of power facilities on urban greening, the agreement said.

State Grid Zhoukou Power Supply Company said it will continue to summarize experiences in resolving the "tree-line contradiction", while coordinating the relationship between power facilities and production, life and ecology. The company will actively fulfill its social responsibilities, create a safe and stable power supply environment, and add a touch of greenery to the ecological development of Zhoukou.
