Guangdong puts world's largest typhoon-resistant wind-fishery into operation

The world's largest typhoon-resistant wind-fishery integrated platform was put into operation in Shanwei of Guangdong province on Wednesday, said its operator China General Nuclear Power Group.

The project, designed to withstand super typhoons of up to Category 17, is expected to generate an annual output value of 54 million yuan ($7.59 million) upon full production, serving as an important demonstration for the integrated development of China's "offshore wind power + marine ranching" industry, said the company.

Construction of the project, which is fully powered by green energy, began in August 2023 with a total investment of 200 million yuan, it said.

The platform is expected to produce approximately 900 tons of high-quality marine fish annually once put into operation, generating an output value of 54 million yuan and creating around 200 local jobs.

The local government vows to come up with a complete offshore wind-fishery integrated marine ranching project in Shanwei in three years, establishing a demonstration cluster integrating "offshore wind power + deep-sea aquaculture + ecological benefits + leisure tourism".

At that time, the total aquaculture volume is expected to reach 300,000 cubic meters, with an annual output of 4,500 tons and an estimated number of 180,000 visitors annually. The combined annual output value is projected to reach 450 million yuan, creating around 800 jobs for the local community, it said.
