Chuzhou, Anhui province: Upgrading old residential areas brings vitality to people's livelihood through electricity

On Sept 19, the construction team from the State Grid Chuzhou Power Supply Company arrived at the Tianshun community in Tianchang city, Chuzhou, to upgrade and reconstruct the power supporting facilities in the old community. They replaced the box transformer and completed the orderly underground installation of low-voltage lines, injecting new vitality into the people's electricity consumption.

The renovation of old residential areas is closely linked to both people's well-being and urban development. Due to the high population density and numerous vehicles in these areas, issues such as aging power lines and equipment are prevalent, which can easily lead to short-circuit faults in power supplies and distribution facilities, even causing fires. Therefore, the renovation of old residential areas is urgently needed.

Tianshun community, established earlier, comprises four units of housing with over 80 residents. It utilizes a dedicated transformer funded and installed by the original developer, without direct power supply from the power company. Consequently, a series of issues have emerged, including outdated infrastructure, water leakage in houses and damaged facades. Simultaneously, problems such as aging power equipment lines and insufficient transformer capacity have intensified the power shortage, causing significant inconvenience to residents' electricity usage.

In response to this situation, the Chuzhou Power Supply Company of State Grid actively conducted patrols, gathering the actual needs of users, streets and merchants. They classified and statistically analyzed low-voltage lines, branch lines, poles, meter boxes and incoming lines. A special working group was established to develop a feasible transformation plan for power supporting facilities in the community. They adopted low-voltage overhead wires and underground household lines, constructed new cable channels, added new box transformers and branch boxes, and assigned a dedicated person to track the progress of the project.

On the same day, the community successfully installed a 400 KVA box transformer and a new cable branch box, laying over 900 meters of various types of wires, achieving the orderly undergrounding of old overhead lines. While ensuring the safety of residents' electricity use and meeting the new demand, the roads and environment of the community have also been qualitatively improved.

"The previous overhead lines were in a mess, and every time I walked under them, I worried about safety issues. Now they are neatly arranged, not only looking spacious and clean, but also giving us peace of mind when using electricity. Our old community has also kept pace with the development of newer communities." Mr Chen, a resident, expressed his sincere appreciation to the construction personnel.

Next, the State Grid Chuzhou Power Supply Company will continue to focus on people's livelihood, deepen the renovation of old residential areas, and achieve a seamless transition of the renovation in these areas by integrating the "one meter for one household" initiative. This will provide a convenient, safe and comfortable electricity environment for more users, thereby enhancing residents' electricity-related quality of life.
