Beijing Dance Academy looks to past, celebrates future

The sixth edition of the BDA (Beijing Dance Academy) Dance Forum, "70 Years of Dance Education: Chinese Experience and Global Perspective", opened on Sunday.

This year's forum, running until Nov 10, features an opening and closing ceremony, one main forum, and 29 sub-forums. The discussions focus on four aspects: the historical experience and development of Chinese dance education, the practical exploration and current research on dance education in China, the cultural inheritance and societal contribution of Chinese dance education, and the expansion and future trends of dance education.

Experts, scholars, and artists from around the world have gathered to explore the development of dance education, as well as to reflect on prospects for its future. The forum provides a platform for the current generation of Beijing Dance Academy members and the Chinese dance community to summarize dance's history, examine the present, and look toward the future.

In honor of its 70th anniversary, the academy has devised a comprehensive initiative, including 70 public lectures, 70 small and medium-sized dance works, 70 publications, and 70 short videos, all aimed at collecting, reviewing, summarizing, and passing on the legacy of Chinese dance education, according to Ba Tu, the Party secretary of the academy.

Additionally, through a series of events paying tribute to pioneers and outstanding educators, the academy is reflecting on how it became the founder of the dance education system in the country, a leading provider of talent, a proponent of advanced ideas in Chinese dance education, a creator of cutting-edge dance, and a leader in the passing on and innovation of Chinese dance culture in modern times.
