State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company upgrades transformers

With the rapid development of the economy and the continuous improvement of residents' living standards, the demand for electricity continues to grow, and old transformers are increasingly unable to meet the growing power load. In order to ensure the stable operation of the power system, State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company in Zhejiang province has responded to national policies and promoted the upgrade of transformers.

On Oct 23, as a crane lifted an old transformer, the power workers of State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company began their push for the replacement of high-energy-consuming transformers. Due to their outdated technology and high energy consumption, old transformers have seriously constrained the power supply efficiency and stability of the grid. Replacing high-energy-consuming transformers is beneficial for supporting the construction of a green power grid and achieving the nation’s dual carbon goals while also increasing the per capita capacity. This helps to eliminate the overload in distribution transformers as well as address safety hazards.

Since 2022, State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company has required grassroots power supply stations to conduct thorough inspections of all transformers in their jurisdiction, especially high-energy-consuming transformers such as the S7 type and S9 type. Replacement of the old transformers is expected to be completed by early November at the Wucheng Branch, leaving no more high-energy-consuming transformers of S7 and S9 types in the jurisdiction. Officials from State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company said the company will continue to increase investment in the transformation of power facilities, optimizing the power grid and providing reliable power for the region's economic development and residents' lives.

In the next step, State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company will make efforts to promote the transformation and upgrading of old equipment, advance energy-efficient utilization, build an energy-saving and low-carbon grid, and develop detailed replacement plans and power supply guarantee plans based on users' electricity needs. Through scientific and reasonable arrangements, the smooth progress of replacement works can be achieved and power outages can become a thing of the past.
