State Grid Anhui Electric Power Research Institute adopts measures to enhance X-ray inspection quality for GIS equipment

In 2024, the Anhui Electric Power Research Institute of State Grid Corporation of China significantly enhanced the quality and efficiency of X-ray inspections for GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) equipment by implementing various innovative measures, providing solid support for the safe and stable operation of the power grid.

GIS equipment, as the core of the power grid system, poses challenges for comprehensive evaluation using conventional detection methods. X-ray testing, as a non-destructive method, proves effective in identifying potential hazards. However, the intricate internal structure of GIS equipment, coupled with varying levels of expertise among inspection personnel, poses significant challenges for X-ray testing. To address these issues, the State Grid Anhui Electric Power Research Institute has implemented a multi-pronged approach to comprehensively enhance the quality and efficiency of X-ray testing.

In July, the research institute standardized the inspection process of GIS equipment by formulating the inspection workflow of UHV GIS equipment, clarifying the inspection qualification and safety related requirements, standardizing the on-site inspection workflow and ensuring the scientificity and standardization of the operation process.

In August, the institute conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the quality of test reports, standard testing procedures, and the effectiveness of test results by establishing a testing and evaluation system. Based on the evaluation results, the performance of suppliers was assessed, leading to continuous improvement in the detection service level of X-ray testing suppliers.

In September, the institute actively established the X-ray detection atlas library for GIS equipment, which contains a vast collection of X-ray detection images of various devices. By deploying the X-ray artificial intelligence diagnosis platform, precise analysis and intelligent diagnosis of image data are achieved, thereby enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of fault diagnosis.

In October, by organizing and hosting the GIS equipment X-ray detection technology exchange forum, the institute established a valuable training platform for skilled talents. Technical exchanges, including assessments of operational standards, penetration capabilities and defect identification abilities, were organized. This effectively enhanced the skill level of personnel and facilitated the development of a high-quality professional team.

The research institute plans to continue driving the intelligent advancement of X-ray detection technology, contributing to the establishment of a safer, more stable and reliable new power system.
