Highlights of Inner Mongolia Government Work Report unveiled

The third session of the 14th Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional People's Congress opened on Jan 14 in Hohhot. The congress reviewed the economic and social achievements of 2024 and outlined development goals for 2025.

Review of 2024 achievements

GDP growth: Regional GDP is estimated to grow by approximately 6 percent, surpassing 2.6 trillion yuan ($354.7 billion).

Industrial advancement: For the first time, the region's Industrial added value exceeded 1 trillion yuan, and the national ranking is expected to rise three places to 14th.

Agricultural success: Grain output reached 41 billion kilograms, achieving a record "21 consecutive bumper harvests" and ranking third in the nation for growth.

Renewable energy: Inner Mongolia's installed capacity for renewable energy reached 135 million kilowatts, surpassing the 100 million kW mark and leading the nation. Energy consumption per unit GDP dropped by 3 percent, meeting the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) target a year ahead of schedule.

Investment milestones: The region attracted 530 billion yuan in funds, achieving the three-year 1-trillion-yuan investment target one year early.

Computing power leadership: Inner Mongolia's total computing power reached 94 exaflops, with 87 exaflops of intelligent computing, securing the top position in China.

Progress in key tasks

Ecological safety: Sand control, afforestation, and grass planting finished targets by 113 percent, 220 percent, and 148 percent, respectively. The region met national assessment targets for surface water quality and good or excellent air quality days.

Energy and resource security: Inner Mongolia ranked first nationwide in coal production, power generation, and electricity exports, with the largest green electricity trading volume in the country.

Agricultural and livestock excellence: High-standard farmland construction covered 9.4 million mu (626,666.67 hectares), increasing grain yield per mu by 12.1 kg. Corn and potato yields hit record highs, while beef, mutton, and milk production remained the highest in China.

Open gateway to the north: Over 120 million metric tons of cargo were transported through land ports, and total import and export volume exceeded 200 billion yuan.

Goals for 2025

As the final year of the 14th Five-Year Plan period and a strategic starting point for the next, Inner Mongolia has set ambitious economic and social targets:

GDP growth: Approximately 6 percent.

Industrial growth: Added value of industries above the designated size to grow by about 7 percent.

Investment: Fixed asset investment to increase by 10 percent.

Fiscal strength: General public budget revenue to grow by over 4 percent.

Employment: Over 180,000 new urban jobs, with an urban surveyed unemployment rate of around 5.5 percent.

Income and inflation: Resident income growth aligns with economic growth and consumer price index increases are capped at about 2 percent.
