SAIC VW launches SUV with Baidu, DeepSeek tech
SAIC Volkswagen has launched the Teramont Pro SUV, featuring the Sino-German joint venture's latest gasoline powertrain and intelligent cockpit technology.
The model is sold under a fixed-price strategy, with prices ranging from 269,900 yuan ($37,047) to 319,900 yuan.
"We will continue to pursue technological breakthroughs, using technology to illuminate the future of automotive craftsmanship," said Tao Hailong, president of SAIC Volkswagen.
As the flagship intelligent SUV in SAIC Volkswagen's lineup, the Teramont Pro is positioned in the large seven-seater segment.
It sports the fifth-generation EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which delivers a maximum output of 200 kilowatts and a peak torque of 400 Newton meters, while achieving a fuel consumption of 8.35 liters per 100 kilometers.
Tao said the engine complies with Euro 7 emission standards and performs well below the current China VI emission limits, effectively preparing it for the forthcoming China VII regulations.
"We have incorporated multiple noise-reduction technologies into the EA888 engine," Tao added, "resulting in a 5 decibel decrease in engine noise and about a 2.5 dB reduction in overall vehicle noise."
The Teramont Pro comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip powering an intelligent cockpit, and uses dual AI engines by integrating DeepSeek and Baidu's ERNIE Bot AI models for in-car smart features.
The SUV is also fitted with a Level 2+ advanced driver-assistance system, supporting functions such as remote-controlled parking and voice interaction in local dialects.
In terms of space and safety, the Teramont Pro measures 5,158 millimeters in length, 1,991 mm in width, and 1,788 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,980 mm – dimensions that exceed the typical standard for its class.
The body is constructed with 82.3 percent high-strength steel combined with laser welding technology to enhance occupant safety.
Inside, the vehicle uses eco-friendly water-based adhesives and coatings instead of traditional organic solvents to reduce the release of harmful substances. The materials and components have undergone full life-cycle durability testing to ensure long-term reliability.
