Electricity empowers the cultivation of spring seedlings covering an area of over 1,600 hectares

On March 17, at the seedling cultivation base of Xinjiang Shuanghe Agricultural Development Co, Ltd in Kaiganqi township, Kuitun city, employees of the State Grid Kuitun Power Supply Company were conducting a comprehensive inspection of the usage of electrical equipment in the greenhouses, carefully safeguarding the first batch of pepper and tomato seedlings this year.

In recent years, peppers and tomatoes have become important projects for the development of the rural economy in the northern Xinjiang region. The cultivation of cash crops, the main agricultural products in Kaiganqi township, Kuitun city, has developed into a complete industrial chain of peppers, integrating breeding, seedling cultivation, transplantation, planting, processing, and sales, and has become an important industry to help villagers increase their incomes and become prosperous.

Since its construction in 2023, the seedling cultivation base in Kaiganqi township has built 37 intelligent temperature-controlled greenhouses, all of which adopt a two-season rotation mode, with seedling cultivation in spring and planting in autumn. The seedlings are mainly supplied to the surrounding areas such as Shihezi, Shawan, Wusu, and Kuitun. It provides high-quality transplanting seedlings for COFCO Group, Xi'an Pepper Company, and surrounding farms, and the available planting area is over 25,000 mu (about 1,667 hectares).

The seedling greenhouses of this base start the seedling cultivation preparation work in early February every year, including clearing snow, raising the temperature in the greenhouses, bringing in the nutrient soil for seedlings and seedling trays, and debugging the seed sowing machines. That is to say, one month ago, the company had organized its employees to patrol and measure the temperature of the 12 transformers and power supply lines that supply power to the seedling cultivation base. They also cooperated with the debugging of the seeding equipment, temperature control equipment, roller shutter machines, etc, paid attention to the operation status of the equipment, did not let go of any potential hidden danger, and made every effort to ensure the smooth resumption of production at the base.

It is understood that after a series of preliminary seedling cultivation work such as seed sowing, tray arrangement, and watering is completed, the refined management of the seedlings in the greenhouse during the seedling stage follows. When the seedlings grow to about 10 centimeters with six leaves, it is a crucial moment for the later-stage seedling hardening. To enable the pepper seedlings to adapt to the survival and growth environment outside the greenhouse, there should be convective air flows in the morning and evening, and large-scale ventilation should be carried out. The light should be collected promptly. Seize the opportunity of direct sunlight into the greenhouse every day to increase photosynthesis and respiration, promote the energy storage, absorption and metabolism of the plants, and better prepare for the environment of the field planting mode.

The control of temperature, humidity, ventilation and lighting requires precision, and every link is of vital importance. In order to ensure the stable operation of the temperature control system, ventilation equipment, supplementary lighting lamps and other facilities in the greenhouse, and to guarantee the trouble-free electricity consumption of the seedling cultivation base, the company has also established a special service team. The team regularly visits the base to inspect the electrical equipment, conducts publicity on safe electricity use, and promptly solves electricity-related problems. Moreover, it maintains close contact with the person in charge of the base. According to the electricity demands at different stages of seedling cultivation, the company formulates emergency plans in advance to ensure a foolproof power supply.
