China, Indonesia must together resist unilateralism and the forces against globalization, Wang says

Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on Tuesday on China and Indonesia to jointly resist unilateralism and the backlash against globalization and to work together in building a shared home in the Asia-Pacific.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, chairman of Indonesia's National Economic Council, in Beijing.

The world is currently facing a surge of unilateralism and acts of trade bullying that harm the interests of all countries, Wang emphasized.

Confronting various risks and challenges, China and Indonesia should stay true to the original aspiration behind the establishment of diplomatic ties, uphold independence and autonomy, expand win-win cooperation, and safeguard fairness and justice, he said.

Wang extended China's congratulations to Indonesia on becoming a full member of BRICS, adding that Beijing is willing to work with Jakarta to safeguard the hard-won peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific and promote regional economic integration.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

China stands ready to deepen political mutual trust with Indonesia, advance signature projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, strengthen cooperation in areas such as maritime affairs and mineral resources, tap into the potential of emerging sectors to support each other's high-quality development, Wang said.

Luhut noted that Indonesia and China enjoy a strong and friendly relationship, and that Indonesia's economic development is inseparable from mutually beneficial cooperation with China.

He expressed Indonesia's hope to maintain close exchanges with China at all levels, expand cooperation areas, enhance people-to-people ties, and promote greater progress in building an Indonesia-China community with a shared future, while jointly advancing solidarity and cooperation among the Global South.
