Visa-free entry expands to all GCC nationals

Starting next month, China will adopt a visa-free entry policy for Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain. From June 9 to June 8 next year, people from the four countries holding ordinary passports will be allowed to enter China visa-free and stay for up to 30 days, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said. With the move, China's visa-free policy will cover all Gulf Cooperation Council member countries, Mao said.

Ex-defense official accused of violating law

Zhang Jianhua, former deputy head of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, is being investigated on suspicion of seriously violating Communist Party of China disciplines and national laws, the country's top anti-corruption watchdogs said. The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision announced the investigation on Wednesday, revealing that Zhang turned himself in to the authorities. Public information showed that Zhang started his career in 1983 and joined the Party in May 1986.Before the investigation, he had worked for the country's national defense system for decades.

Routine patrol carried out near Jinmen

Fujian province's coast guard conducted a routine law enforcement patrol in the waters near Jinmen on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson for a regional bureau of China Coast Guard. Zhu Anqing, spokesperson for the East China Sea Bureau of the China Coast Guard, said that since May, the Fujian coast guard has organized fleet formations to strengthen law enforcement patrols in waters adjacent to Jinmen, while also carrying out special law enforcement operations related to the summer fishing moratorium.

Former chairman pleads guilty to bribery charges

Yan Guijun, former chairman of Everbright Trust, has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes, engaging in illegal lending and abusing power while standing trial in Jingzhou, Hubei province, a local court said on Wednesday. Prosecutors said that from 2002 to 2021, Yan took advantage of his positions at China Everbright Bank to seek profits for others in various matters such as loan approval, business operations and job promotions, and accepted bribes worth more than 200 million yuan ($27.8 million) in return.
