China, India agree to strengthen border peace, coordination

Beijing and New Delhi have agreed to maintain peace along the border between China and India and enhance coordination.

During a meeting with India's National Security Adviser Shri Ajit Doval in Beijing on Monday, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi called on both sides to further strengthen communication and mutual trust, and work to address practical issues.

Noting that China-India relations have witnessed progress recently, Wang said both sides should view each other as development opportunities, instead of threats, and as cooperative partners, not rivals.

He stressed the need to handle sensitive issues carefully and maintain peace in the border area.

He urged both sides to focus more on cooperation, strengthen exchanges at all levels and in all fields, and support each other on multilateral occasions, such as in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Doval, also India's special representative for the India-China boundary question, said both sides should handle the question properly, and work together to maintain peace in the border area.

He said India hopes to strengthen coordination with China on multilateral fronts.

China now holds the rotating presidency of the SCO, and will host the SCO summit in the city of Tianjin in autumn.

Doval said India fully supports China in hosting the summit, adding that as important Asian countries, India and China can contribute more to the world.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries.
