Henan Nanyang: Electricity powers sericulture dream and paints a prosperous picture in Siwan town
Currently, the thousand-mu mulberry gardens in Siwan town, Nanyang city, are at their peak, receiving over 500 visitors per day on average. Known as the "No 1 Sericulture Town in Central Plains", the local sericulture industry, under the reliable support from State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company, is becoming the "green engine" for rural revitalization.
Inside the intelligent silkworm houses, temperature and humidity control equipment operates 24 hours a day, with tens of thousands of silkworms busy feeding on mulberry leaves and spinning cocoons. "Silkworms are highly sensitive to temperature and humidity; even a half-hour power outage could affect their quality," said Zhang Jianguo, a major sericulture farmer in Siwan town. To ensure the stable power supply for the industry, State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company has upgraded the rural power grid in Siwan town, added new transformer districts, and completely resolved the issue of low voltage, increasing the power supply reliability to 99.8 percent. Meanwhile, the Siwan Power Supply Office has organized three grid managers who, together with the safety officers stationed at the "village-grid co-construction" sites, conduct two night inspections in their jurisdiction each month. This year, they have cumulatively eliminated 28 safety hazards, including removing bird nests, tightening meter bolts, and replacing oxidized wiring connections.
The stable power supply has facilitated the extension and upgrading of the sericulture industry chain. Currently, Siwan town has established standardized mulberry processing workshops, introduced automated production lines, and developed 12 types of processed products, including mulberry tea, mulberry wine, and silk quilts. Meanwhile, with the power supply guarantee, three characteristic farmhouses and guesthouses have achieved stable 24/7 operations, launching unique projects such as "sericulture cultural experience tours" and "mulberry picking DIY", leading to an average annual income increase of over 30,000 yuan per household. In e-commerce live-streaming rooms, farmers sell fresh mulberries and handmade silk products to all parts of the country through the internet, with the highest daily sales reaching 10,000 yuan.
"In the past, we were most afraid of power outages during peak electricity consumption periods. Now, with sufficient power, the mulberry garden irrigation, workshop production, and guesthouse operations are all guaranteed!" said the Party branch secretary of Dahuashan village. To meet the industry's electricity demands, State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company has also launched "one-on-one" exclusive services, established electricity files for key customers, and continuously monitored load changes. In anticipation of the upcoming summer peak electricity consumption period, the company has formulated power supply protection plans in advance and deployed two additional repair personnel at the "village-grid co-construction" sites to deal with emergencies at any time.
Today, the stable electric current not only nourishes the healthy growth of silkworms but also illuminates a new picture of rural revitalization in Siwan town. In the future, the company will continue to optimize its services, accelerate the upgrade and transformation of the power grid, and inject stronger momentum into the development of characteristic industries.
