Top court adds over 5,000 cases in online archive

More than 5,000 prominent cases have been included in an online archive in the past 17 months, contributing to unifying verdict-rendering standards and enhancing people's legal awareness, China's top court said on Wednesday.

The archive of cases, created by the Supreme People's Court, was opened on Feb 27, 2024. As of Tuesday, it has recorded details of 5,040 cases and achieved comprehensive coverage of common criminal charges and frequently occurring reasons for conflicts, according to the top court.

Among the total, about 43 percent involve civil matters and nearly 38 percent on criminal activities, the top court said.

Additionally, the online archive has attracted more than six million visitors, with over one million registered users from more than 120 countries.

The top court said that it established the archive for residents to search for landmark and major civil, criminal, administrative, enforcement and State compensation cases. The online platform is intended as a timely response to public concerns on legal issues, including those on psychological abuse, cyberbullying, telecom fraud, domestic violence and justifiable defense.

The archive also helps to unify verdict-rendering standards, optimize legal services and advance judicial transparency, the top court added.

People can search for the cases on https://rmfyalk.court.gov.cn. While reading about the cases, visitors can also learn about what laws were applied and why the courts arrived at their verdicts.
