Zhoukou Power Supply Company: Building a cool-weather shield to safeguard homes

Amid the sweltering summer heat, State Grid Zhoukou Power Supply Company has mobilized all units to address the combined challenges of peak demand, extreme heat and severe convective weather, erecting a reliable "cool-weather shield" for every household.

On Aug 12, State Grid Shangshui County Power Supply dispatched crews to rural villages to inspect high-temperature lines and conduct safety-awareness campaigns. Before dawn, technicians arrived at Baijian village, Yangmei town, armed with thermal imagers and infrared cameras, using drones to carry out infrared temperature measurements. By combining foot patrols with UAV sweeps, they identified hidden defects like high temperatures and heavy loads causing equipment to overheat. The team focused on composite insulators, splice sleeves and jumper lines, recording surface temperatures to assess equipment health. Simultaneously, they cleared vegetation, bird nests and debris along corridors to maintain line safety. Crews also visited neighboring villages to distribute leaflets and give on-site briefings, promoting safe and economical electricity use and explaining summer precautions and power-facility protection, thereby raising public awareness and fostering a community-based prevention culture.

With the rise in temperatures and subsequent electricity demand, State Grid Fugou County Power Supply moved quickly to ensure uninterrupted cooling for residents. On Aug 13, at the Lisen Boulevard site, a live-line crew replaced aging equipment and eliminated defects on Pole 3 of the Wenxi Feeder without causing a power outage. After detailed safety briefings, tool checks and permit verification, crew members donned heavy insulated suits, visors and gloves, before entering the insulated bucket of a 10-meter aerial lift. Step by step they verified voltage and current, installed insulating covers and completed live-line connections. "Live-line work keeps customers fully powered while improving supply quality," the site supervisor noted. After two hours aloft in stifling heat, the crew emerged drenched in sweat.
