State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company supports biodiversity research

To mark the third National Ecology Day on Aug 15, the State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company, in collaboration with the Yangtze River Porpoise Protection Management Office of the Zhenjiang Nature Reserve, conducted monitoring of the Yangtze finless porpoise in a provincial nature reserve in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province.

Within the reserve, volunteers from the "Green Power Ark" team observed the porpoises in real-time using binoculars, while also operating infrared monitoring devices and acoustic equipment to track the activities of nearby small mammals and birds, collecting fundamental data for biodiversity research.

"In the past, power supply to tidal flat areas was not only distant but also potentially damaging to the ecosystem," said Yi Ning, a volunteer.

"In the future, we will deploy integrated green power supply devices with solar, storage and charging capabilities to achieve zero-carbon power supply, enhancing the ecological environment."

This solution addresses the challenge of power supply in the wild while aligning with low-carbon conservation needs, which can achieve dual benefits.

Since last year, the State Grid Zhenjiang Power Company and the Yangtze River Porpoise Management Office of the Zhenjiang Nature Reserve have been jointly advancing the "Green Power Ark" public welfare project. The project focuses on the protection of habitats for endangered species, empowering biodiversity conservation with clean energy through measures like constructing zero-carbon micro-grids in the reserve.

This innovative practice not only fortifies the survival barrier for the Yangtze finless porpoise but also provides a replicable "Chinese solution" for global biodiversity conservation, safeguarding the shared ecological future of humanity.
