Month-long Macao intl fireworks contest to commence in September
MACAO -- The 33rd Macao International Fireworks Display Contest will run from Sept 6 to Oct 6, bringing 10 top fireworks companies from around the world to light up the city's night sky, the organizer said on Thursday.
The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government Tourism Office (MGTO), the event's organizer, noted that companies from Australia, South Africa, South Korea, Austria, the Philippines, Japan, China, Portugal, Britain, and Brazil will compete in 18-minute displays above the sea across Macao Tower on Sept 6, 13, 20, and Oct 1 and 6.
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said that all participating teams this year are award-winning companies, promising "dazzling, high-level displays." She added that the contest will showcase Macao's charm as a destination for "tourism+events," enrich nocturnal activities, and stimulate the local economy.
According to the tourism office, the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest has developed into a prestigious event of Macao since 1989.
