As part of China's national "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed rail network, the new line will shorten travel time between the two cities from about two hours to just one, while also giving several cities along the route access to high-speed rail for the first time.
According to earlier reports, the line is expected to open to passenger service in September.
