China to unveil a five-year plan for power battery industry
China will roll out a new five-year plan for the power battery sector to accelerate the development of next-generation battery technologies, a senior official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Monday at a battery conference in Yibin, Sichuan province.
According to the ministry, China's power battery industry has maintained rapid growth, achieving major breakthroughs in core technologies. The country's latest battery cells now reach energy densities exceeding 300 watt-hours per kilogram, enable 15-minute fast charging, and deliver an average driving range of over 500 kilometers.
The upcoming plan will provide strategic guidance for the development of new energy vehicles and advanced battery industries during the next planning cycle. The ministry also pledged to promote innovation in battery swapping models, expand application scenarios, and advance vehicle-to-grid interaction pilot programs.
In addition, China will study the establishment of a carbon management system for power batteries to better align the sector with national carbon reduction goals, the official said.
