'Shopping in China' initiative spurs consumption, strengthens links with global distributors
China will continue to expand product availability, upgrade services, and diversify consumption scenarios under the "Shopping in China" initiative, in an effort to better reflect the dynamism of the country's modern consumer economy, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
As part of the initiative, the "2025 Premium Consumption Month" promotional program was rolled out nationwide by the Ministry of Commerce in early November to draw global shoppers and spur new demand at home and abroad.
He Yongqian, a spokeswoman for the ministry, said cities across the country have held more than 4,600 themed activities focused on product launches, shopping, food, tourism, and cultural experiences.
She said that the "Shopping in China" initiative has also strengthened global links for premium goods, as major distributors increased imports of in-demand products and helped turn more foreign items into retail hits. Additionally, local governments have created more varied consumption scenarios by integrating shopping, dining, tourism, and entertainment resources.
