Tianjin Hospital hosts Malaysian orthopedic experts to deepen China-ASEAN medical exchange
To further promote medical collaboration between China and ASEAN countries, three orthopedic specialists from Malaysia recently visited Tianjin Hospital to attend the 2025 International Advanced Arthroplasty Seminar. The event brought together Chinese and international experts to explore innovations and future directions in joint surgery.
During the session, the Malaysian experts shared challenging cases and complex issues from their clinical work, engaging in in-depth discussions with professors Ren Kaijing and Zhang Fujiang from Tianjin Hospital's joint surgery department.
The visiting experts expressed strong admiration for the advanced work carried out at the hospital.
Dr Chan Kin Yuen from Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur said, "What you guys do here is quite cutting-edge, particularly in 3D printing and revision surgery, which is very complex and high-risk. It's fascinating that you've got such a good team and facilities to do it."
Dato' Dr Goh Eng Tat from the LohGuanLye Specialists Centre observed the effective mentorship between senior and young surgeons, noting that it enables the team to confidently undertake major complex surgeries while ensuring continuity and progress.
Dr Cheu Teck Luk from Borneo Medical Centre added, "I think it's eye-opening for me to learn about the history of the buildings. This hospital has such a great history that is integral to China, and that's something that struck me significantly."
A surgical observation session stood out as a highlight of the program. Professor Li Xiaohui, administrative director of the joint surgery department one area, performed three live demonstrations, covering complex hip dysplasia, knee revision surgery, and robot-assisted joint replacement — all representative of advanced techniques in the field.
The exchange led to the establishment of a high-quality platform for professional collaboration in joint surgery and showcased Tianjin Hospital's clinical expertise and technical strengths on an international stage.
