China's media industry generated 320.5 billion yuan (US$40 billion) in 2005, an increase of 11.9 over the previous year, according to an academic report in Beijing Wednesday.

The report, named "Blue Paper on China's media industry in 2006", is the second such annual report and was released at a forum hosted by the prestigious Tsinghua University.
 
The report's editor-in-chief Prof. Cui Baoguo, who is also director of a research center on media management, said statistics were calculated on an in-depth analysis of specific trades and professions in the media industry.
