New-energy policies boost for Tianjin auto makers

The new-energy automobile business in Tianjin has won significant support from the local government.

The Tianjin Municipal Commission of Development and Reform has issued a series of policies to support development of the energy-saving and new-energy automobile industry from 2013 to 2020.

The local government said local automobile manufacturers should enhance their ability to produce new-energy vehicles and come up with a well-established energy-saving and new-energy automobile brand as soon as possible.

The commission will give full backing to FAW Xiali Automobile Co Ltd and FAW Toyota for the mass production of new-energy cars. Production of vehicles and components led by companies such as FAW Xiali and Tianjin EV Energies Co Ltd is expected to start in the Xiqing district of Tianjin.

Tianjin will also promote energy-saving and new-energy cars among private consumers, with about 2,000 such cars expected to be used by individuals in the city by 2015.
