An alert taxi driver in Shanghai helped police catch a murder suspect in 40 minutes after the suspect got on the taxi attempting to escape authorities.

Last week, a young man stopped Yuan's taxi and asked for a ride. He kept demanding Yuan to drive quickly and looked quite nervous when a police car passed by.

Yuan confirmed his suspicions about the young man after he saw bloodstains on the man's hand.

As soon as the young man arrived at his destination, Yuan alerted police immediately and had the young man caught.

Police said that the man belonged to a criminal gang allegedly involved in a group fight and murder in the city's downtown 40 minutes before.
