Yunnan to open 4 agricultural parks

Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences has been created a mutual agricultural science and technology demonstrationl Park between China and other countries in the world, which is becoming the agricultural science and technology platform to show the agriculture in Yunnan Province and even China's agriculture in the Southeast Asian countries.

Relying on the fact of the opening up to the borderes policy as well as the double advantage of low-cost use of the agricultural resources in the neighboring countries, Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Southeast Asian countries have been working actively in the development of agriculture-oriented international cooperation and exchanges, and have achieved remarkable results and experiences.

According to Tao Dayun, director of International Cooperation Division in Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, in Hanoi, captical city of Vietnam, Baoshan county in Yunnan, Sino-Vietnam Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park and Vietnam-China Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park are  under construction; the "Yunnan ---Siem Reap friendly Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park" which is located in Siem Reap province of Cambodia is to be completed in October,2009 ; Besides the "northern Laos agricultural science and technology demonstration and promotion center" has been officially started in July, 2009.

"The four parks constructed with the three countries have displayed different crops according to their different climate characters and national demand." Tao said.

The Yunnan ---Siem Reap friendly Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park focuses on the demonstration of hybrid rice, maize, flowers and fruit garden as a part of the tourism industry, while the Vietnam-China Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park in BaoShan focuses on introducing varieties of tropical fruits in Vietnam to China, such as the mango, grapefruit, guava and other tropical fruits as well as the insect resistant coffee.

The "Sino-Vietnam Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park" have shown potato, vegetable and floweres cultivated in Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences based ob their domestic demand.

The "northern Laos agricultural science and technology demonstration and promotion center" will focus on the upland rice, maize, tea, rubber and tobacco for its centralized position in the promotion process Laos."

The government can take advantage of the experimental demonstration of the new breeds and new technologies of Chinese agriculture through the construction of different types of Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park, in order to attract more and more Chinese and foreign enterprises to participate in the promotion of the construction of model demonstration parks, and to expand the content and size of the demonstration parks to turn them into all-round (including species, breeds, aquatic products, garden seedlings and tropical fruits) platforms for technical training and communication as well as agricultural marketing.

They are "the first stop" on the process of promoting Yunnan agriculture to Southeast Asia.

At present, the hybrid rice, upland rice, hybrid wheat, barley, corn, vegetables, tea, sugar cane, potatoes and other breeds of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences have been introduced, demonstrated and promoted in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and other neighboring countries, while the provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences have also introduced a large number of crop species resources from these countries.

The academy has accumulated the experience that the harmonized development of the economy，society and the ecosystem should go on the basis of food security, which was honored as “Yunnan Model ”, and it is widely used in the Greater Mekong Subregion countries.
