Equity, justice basis of social stability

Equity and justice are the basis of social stability, and they shine brighter than the sun, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said today at a press conference after the conclusion of the national legislature's annual session in Beijing.

"It is the reality that injustice exists in our society on income distribution, judicial issues and other matters to which we should pay great attention," Wen said.

"Our economic work and social development strategy should also be more focused on the poor and vulnerable groups, because they are the majority in the society," he said. "We should promote not only economic development, but also social equity and justice and the full development of individuals in a free environment, and these three should not be biased."

China's modernization not only means to promote economic development, but also to enforce the strength of social equity, justice and morality, he said.

"In the last years of my term, I will endeavor to achieve social equity and justice," Wen said.
