Mao Xinyu, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and grandson of late Chairman Mao Zedong, made several proposals to the on-going conference focused on the anti-corruption effort. Mao said corruption does great harm to the country and is of great concern to the Chinese people. As Chairman Mao's offspring, he said he felt a responsibility to confront the problem.

Zhu Heping, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and grandson of Zhu De, late chief commander of the People's Liberation Army of China, said that China must continue to develop military equipment in order to defend the country's security. As deputy director of the Air Force Command College, Zhu said China must develop aircraft carriers as well as other weapons and equipment not for expansion, but to defend China's security. Zhu added that China also needs more red songs; singing red songs reinforces the country's socialist values, he said.

The internet environment should be purified and "cultural revolution" posters circulating on the web should be eliminated, said He Jiesheng, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and daughter of He Long, late vice-premier of the State Council. He said that a number of big-character posters slandering old State leaders including her father were written during the "cultural revolution". These posters have been distributed online and have damaged the reputations of those portrayed. Some posters have even been forged, purporting to have been written by her against her father, He said.

Dong Lianghui, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and daughter of Dong Biwu, late acting chairman of the People's Republic of China, stressed that a lack of ideals and beliefs causes corruption. Dong said it is easy for officials who are in charge of money to become corrupt if they lack ideals. If they are not severely punished, the corruption will spread, she said.
