Chinese general, diplomat to attend Shangri-La Dialogue

BEIJING - China appreciates the value of the Shangri-La Dialogue as an important platform to discuss Asian security, and will not be absent from the event in Singapore from May 30 to June 2, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday.

Spokesman Qin Gang said at a daily press briefing that Chinese military and diplomatic officials have attended all the annual conferences of the dialogue in recent years.

Wang Guanzhong, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), will lead the Chinese delegation to the dialogue this year.

Wang will deliver a speech explaining the Asia security outlook proposed by President Xi Jinping at the fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng said at a monthly briefing on Thursday.

Wang will also talk about Chinese military's application of the security outlook, international security cooperation, and will propose strengthening regional security cooperation.

Fu Ying, chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of China's National People's Congress, will also attend the dialogue,?Qin said.

The Chinese delegation will expound China's point of view on security during the dialogue and discuss with other parties on ways to jointly safeguard regional peace, security and stability, Qin said.
