A 14-year-old Shenzhen girl was rescued in Lengshuijiang, Hunan Province on October 3 after being kidnapped for 18 days, reports Guangzhou Daily. The girl did not return home after a school activity on the night of September 15. After alerting police, her family received a call from Hunan, demanding 1 million yuan (US$120,481) in ransom. As per police instructions, the family deposited the amount to the bank accounts given by the kidnapper. Cash withdrawals were made from five provinces and cities, including Hubei, Hunan and Beijing. The first suspect, surnamed Mao, was arrested at Wuhan Railway Station in Hubei on October 1. His confession led to the rescue of the girl in an apartment in Lengshuijiang. Two men keeping watch on the hostage were also arrested. |
