Cellphone messaging mistaken for spying ( 2003-12-02 16:35) (China Daily)
Yang was swapping messages with friends on her cellphone when a supermarket guard snatched away her phone. She was accused of spying for competitors by marking down the discounts on offer. The misunderstanding was not cleared until a manager examined her cellphone content. An angry Yang threatened to sue the supermarket until a consumers' council in Shenzhen's Nanshan District persuaded her to accept a formal apology. Such misunderstandings have been on the increase recently, according to the consumers' council, which has received 19 complaints from insulted customers to date this year, compared to a total of four last year. |
