TWO renowned Chinese scientists, botanist Wu Zhengyi and biochemist Zou Chenglu, were honored with lifetime achievement awards and HK$1 million (US$128,200) each in Hong Kong yesterday.

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, which gave away the prizes, hailed the two scientists for "making prominent contributions to China's scientific advancement." Mathematician Hu Hesheng and 41 other scientists were granted the second-tier prize worth HK$200,000. Wu has specialized in botanic taxonomy, geobotany and diversity study over the past six decades.
