“Munao Zongge” Festival of Longchuan County, Dehong Prefecture

Date: January 27-30, 2009 (2-5^th day of the first month by lunar calendar

Venue: Longchuan County, Dehong Prefecture

“Munao Zongge” is the annual traditional festival of the Jingpo ethnic people, and Longchuan County is renowned as the “home of Munao Zongge in China”. “Munao” is a Jingpo sub-branch language word and “Zongge” is a Zaiwa sub-branch language word, both originally meaning “dancing”. “Munao Zongge” means collective dancing and singing, renowned as the “dance of paradise” and “dance of thousands of people”. With a dancing ground, all the people around the world may dance and sing together; therefore, Munao Zongge is also the grandest collective occasion of dancing and singing in the world.
