Tourism resources are spread out all over Anhui, with more natural sceneries in the south and more historic sites in the north. It is home to 260 traveling spots at the national and provincial level, including five national key scenery sites: Huangshan Mountain, Jiuhua Mountain, Tianzhu Mountain, Langya Mountain and Qiyun Mountain; and three historic cities at the national level: Shouxian County, Bozhou and Shexian county. There are also other national key protected sites and temples.

Jiuhua Mountain, the Buddhist mountain, is known for both its unique temple complexes and its beautiful landscape. Qiyun Mountain distinguishes itself with its incomparable land formations and inscriptions on precipices. Langya Mountain owes much of its fame to The Story of Old Tippler’s Pavilion by Ou Yangxiu of the Song dynasty. Tianzhu Mountain was once praised by Emperor Hanwu in the Western Han dynasty (206 BC--24 AD) as a column built up in the sky.

Rivers and lakes also are scattered throughout Anhui. Pinghu Lake, surrounded by mountains, shows its pure green in the clean and quiet atmosphere. Chaohu Lake stretches itself into the skyline. Springs in Huangshan Mountain boast clean water both for drinking and bathing. Bantang Spring in Chaohu is rich in mineral elements in both cold and hot water, curing many diseases of bathers.

In addition to three historic cities, other ancient buildings, such as the Old Street in Tunxi, ancient residences in Qian county, ancient building complexes in Hefei and Anqing and the Zhongdu city and the imperial mausoleum in Fengyang are also well-known, both at home and abroad.
